Nueral Stem Cells
Scientists in Oregon have demonstrated that banked nueral stem cells can survive and make functional myelin in mice that have lost myelin. Myelin is the critical fatty insulation, or sheath, surrounding new nerve fibers and is essential for normal brain function. This is a very good thing in the field of medicine in terms of advancing stem cell research. Myelin disorders are a common, extremely disabling, often fatal type of brain disease found in children and adults.Scientists have also discovered that a healthy brain has a lot of white matter and that the reason for memory loss in adults is because of the loss of white matter. This study is also important because the researchers can determine by MRI that the transplant was successful.

Homecoming Week
Homecoming week is very exciting at SHS. First off the whole entire week we have dress up days. My favorite day this week was Western Day, I mean we live in Sparta it should fit right in. And then Friday comes and we have Mock Rock, the day is filled with games and fun. Although I didn't get to participate in the games this year, I loved watching them. Some games that I will always remember is the caterpillar race. A group of 10 kids are in a line and you have to go under their legs and just keep moving forward down the length of the gym, I did this my freshmen year and I will never forget the marks I had on my knees from that. They looked quite cute with my dress on Saturday. And now that I think about it that was my last ever Mock Rock, its sad to say that I will be graduating this year and that a lot of the kids that are in my grade I wont see for a while. The advice for any freshmen I have is to make the best of your homecoming days because they truly do fly by.
I have made a ton of great memories doing all the homecoming activities, although I didn't do all that many this year because of having surgery and all. Homecoming is one of the best things in the world and if you don't think that you will miss when you leave high school you are wrong a lot of my friends that graduated last year all come back to watch it after they graduate. It just is so weird to me that Homecoming is already over and that it flew by. All my high school years have flown by. Homecoming week at SHS is the best.

This Coming Week...
AP Biology I feel that I am going to have a love/hate relationship with you. Hopefully mostly love. I think the topic of cells is going to interest me the most because I am very interested in how cells work in the body and how they function. The topic I am feel is going to be one of the more difficult ones is evolution. I dont know much about it. Although this is only suppose to be about AP Biology. Come support the Varsity Volleyball team on Thursday at Ravenna as they compete against Ravenna and Fremont.

My First Blog Entry
I am a senior in high school. I would love to become a pediatrician or a orthopedic doctor. I am a volleyball player, unfortunately I recently tore my ACL so I am out for the season. I would love to play volleyball in college. I am very interested in the sciences. I am so excited to be in AP Biology. I took this course because I wanted to be challenged with my learning. I hope to learn more about Biology during this course. I would love to get an A in this class and also get a college credit by doing great on the AP test.
